Derrick Hicks, born in Vicksburg, MS and raised in the Austin, Tx area, multi-instrumentalist proficient in piano/keyboard, drums and bass guitar with a strong focus in Gospel, Jazz, Neo-Soul, Funk and Fusion genres. At this time, Derrick is pursuing his purpose of positively impacting and encouraging others through music.

Derrick knew that he was destined to be a musician. From the early years of playing drums since the age of 5, receiving his 1st drum kit from long time friend and drummer extraordinaire Jason Meekins, to now being fluent in multiple instruments, the calling over his life was to touch and inspire whoever he came in contact with through music. At the age of 16 years of age, with the guidance of Steve Greer, Derrick learned his first song on the keyboard, "I Ain't Mad At Cha" by Tupac. 

The experiences and privileges of being surrounded by the top musical acts in Austin, Derrick has been afforded the opportunities of playing with or sharing the stage with national gospel recording artists (Shirley Caesar, Mighty Clouds of Joy, Mississippi Mass Choir, CeCe Winans, Jonathan Nelson, VaShawn Mitchell, Beverly Crawford, etc), internationally known saxophonist Kyle Turner and many local artists such as Jack Burton Trio, Courtney Santana Music, Saxophonist James Johnson, Toni Ringgold Music, Moontower Entertainment, The Nightowls and many more.

While enjoying life to the fullest with his wife Tawny and 2 sons Ayden & Amare, Derrick Hicks is in the process of completing his first solo instrumental project, a collaborative jazz/fusion hymn project with James Johnson, as well as, introducing his premier wedding and party band Nu Standard.
